HABITAT presents: Kruse and Nuerberg (DE)

Habitat is pleased to announce another installment of cutting edge music for connoisseurs, Nils Nuernberg from Kruse & Nuernberg fame will be showcasing the cutting edge of deep house and techno straight from Germany.

Deep house and techno are quickly becoming the bastion of progressive house fans as the sounds are deep, surreal – expert production, chunky and funky in all the right places but with a journey in mind. Music for the hips, head and soul – This duo is amongst the hottest of the genre right now with releases on NRK, Fred Everything’s Lazy Days, Bedrock and Slip N Slide.

A quick peruse around the internet to check their credentials and I am certain you will find not only your interest piqued, but a sincere appreciation for the depth and quality of their vision of sound.

Support by local Dj’s specifically chosen and charged with setting up an amazing night – while providing a varied mix of crowd: Jamie Norman, Mike Dub of Almanova and Wirik, a new face in town from Mexico City whom plays incredible deep dub techno.

“I have gone to every effort to put together a night for those that like to get off the beaten path – for those committed to music being about more than fist pumping. I hope you dig it.” Cary Chang

KRUSE & NUERNBERG LIVE SEPT 2010 Cloudcast by Kruse & Nuernberg

Kind words from Lady Miss Kier

Lady Miss Kier had some very kind words about Almanova Music and the show on January 22nd at Skybar.

the ALMANOVA crew are a rare cause when the gig sold out these promotors could have easily crammed the venue to capacity as I heard their phone ring thruout our lunch prior to the gig but they didnt want the dancefloor to be too crowded for the true throw down dancers and ..how do you say….deeeklined additional ticket sales – they stuck to their guns , the night was a blast  and the crowd went bonkers when i switched the set into rare p-funk and sly stone SURPRIZE mix midway . When James Bobbin ,the opening dj started his set with my current favorite disco hiphop song “are you doing alrite” I raced from the dancefloor in my silver  platform shoes and back to the booth to give him a big smiley hug and then back to the floor . I have not witnessed this general concern for  the dancers in years and it was heartwarming in the middle of a $ depression  to see that a proper dance party culture can trump greed. The Almanova music policy is diverse old school disco ,new-school disco but all GOOD SCHOOL DISCO including italo, and obscure 80’s pop hits- very uplifting. Almanova- if you ever want me back-just whistle.-Lady Kier

BEATS FROM THE STREETS ended the 2010 season with as much zest as it’s introduction. Not only did we get to see Eddie C. play an amazing disco infused set, but we raised more money/food for the Food Bank than we did last year. Special thanks to all of our sponsors; Swizzlesticks, Salon & Spa, Concept 1, Higher Ground Cafe, Cafe Koi, Immaculate Concept Tattoo & Piercing, and The Rocket. Extra special thanks to the U of C Social Work Students association for helping us organize this event.

Eddie C

Over the past two years Canadian DJ and producer Eddie Currelly – AKA Eddie C – has been responsible for some of the best examples of why the edit is far from a lost cause. But he’s been DJing and tinkering with records for much longer than that, and over the years he’s been able to gather together a stockpile of musical knowledge that has fed back into releases on labels from all around the world, including Jiscomusic, Endless Flight, and Kolour

January 22, 2011 // Lady Miss Kier (Deee-Lite) @ The SkyBar

SATURDAY JANUARY 22, 2011

THE GROOVE IS STILL IN OUR HEARTS…

Almanova Music blew the roof of the Skybar in September with our first party featuring Horse Meat Disco from London, UK. This time we are back with one of the most legendary club kid’s to come out of NYC in the late 90’s. We are very proud to present a music, fashion and cultural icon in Calgary for the very first time ever, to a an intimate audience of only 200 peop…le.

————————————————–

LADY MISS KIER (DEE-LITE)
exclusive 2hr. dj set

She’s all grown up! She survived a fire, fought to get out of a major
label deal foreseeing the digital download revolution, tours worldwide
and genuinely lifts up any crowd with her soulful pioneering sound
whether singing live on stage or spinning her diverse set.

In the early 90′s she was famous for being the singer, writer, and
producer of the NYC Tech House Funk band Deeelite. After 3 albums and
3 world tours she quit the band in 1996 and broke up a rocky
relationship with her Russian boyfriend, DJ Dmitry.

She stepped out of the spotlight, moved to Europe, and began designing
her future by learning how to engineer, produce, and DJ, all the while
traveling the world as a DJ. After a decade of travel Lady Kier
returned to her home in NYC. She finally decided she couldn’t keep
silent any longer and in 2005 she chose to SING OUT the P-funk cover
of the anti-war song entitled “I Ain’t Bulletproof” at Lady Bunny’s
Wigstock. This lead to an Australian tour opening for James Brown, and
in the past 2 years she has been touring and singing her new material
worldwide, as well as performing Deeelite classics such as “Groove is
in the Heart”, ” I just wanna hear a Goodbeat”, “Applejuice
Kissin”,”What is Love?”.

Her new material has been a smash in Argentina, Moscow, Istanbul,
Sydney and dozens of other places. She still DJs and is just about
ready to launch her – a decade in the making – new material. In her
current productions, she has collaborated with George Clinton,
Shock-G, several P-funk luminaries, among others. Why did
she wait so long? “It’s simple really. I asked to get out of a major
label contract in 1996 because I could see the digital revolution
coming. I watched as fools rush in with DRM, and subscription
policies, tryna lock it down…which is why I wanted to get away from
the major label distribution platform. In the first place. It took me
5 years to get out of the major label-recording contract with my own
masters but it was worth the wait. I am more in control now than
ever”.

FRED EVERYTHING – Om Records/ Lazy Days Recordings
http://www.myspace.com/fre deverything
http://www.om-records.com/ artists/50-fred-everything

Canadian DJ/producer Fred Everything is a key player in the world of House Music and with 12 years in the music business and over 100 productions to his credit, he shows no signs of stopping. Born in Hull and raised in Quebec City, Fred got the early bug for electronic music in High School. He formed a few bands while spending his weekends as one of the youngest in local nightclubs. In the early 90s, he started playing live in raves and clubs in Canada. He was then known as “Everything”, because his live sets could range anywhere from techno to house, ambient and even drum and bass. He even got to open up for a then up and coming, Sasha. Tired of carrying his equipment around, mainly a TR909 and a SH101, he started DJ’ing and changed his name to Fred Everything. A move to the big city of Montreal was the next obvious thing, and it wasn’t too long after that Fred found himself releasing records on some of his favorite labels and catching the attention of DJ’s and producers worldwide.

Fred recently relocated from Montreal to San Francisco where he can be found working from the infamous Moulton Studios. His new album, Lost Together is out now on Om records and includes collaborations from Roy Davis Jr, Lisa Shaw, Tortured Soul, Tim Fuller and N’Dea Davenport from The Brand New Heavies. It’s been recorded in Montreal, Vancouver, San Francisco, New York, Hollywood and Tokyo. The first single ‘Here I Am’ featuring Lisa Shaw has found its way to the number 3 on Traxsource’s top downloads and landed as Single of the week on Wasabeat.com. He’s also hard at work on his label Lazy Days who just got to their 10th release.
